4030 West Road, which is Route 281, in Cortland. Parking is free and on site, an easy stop off the road rather than somewhere you have to work out downtown parking for, which matters if you are coming in on a lunch break or between shifts.

Which court will my Cortland County ticket be in?

One of fifteen town justice courts, or Cortland City Court if you were stopped inside the city limits. Fifteen is a good deal fewer than Onondaga County's twenty-six, but they are spread across a wide rural county, so the drive matters more here than the number does.

The court named on my ticket is not in the town it is named after.

Five of the fifteen sit somewhere else, and two pairs share a building. Freetown and Lapeer Town Courts both sit in Marathon; Solon and Taylor Town Courts both sit in Cincinnatus; Scott Town Court sits in Homer. Go by the address on your paperwork, not the name.

Is Cortland City Court the same as Cortlandville Town Court?

No, and the names cause real confusion. Cortland City Court handles matters arising inside the city limits. Cortlandville Town Court is a separate court covering the surrounding town, and it sits at 3577 Terrace Road in Cortland. Check which one your paperwork actually names.

Should I use the Cortland office or the Cicero one?

Cortland, if you are in the county or south of Syracuse. Homer, Preble, Marathon, Virgil and Cincinnatus are all closer to this office than to Cicero. The two offices share files and neither one handles a matter differently, so it is purely a question of the drive.
